The Old Schoolhouse Magazine
OK, I admit it, I hate to drill flashcards with my children! And you know
what, they like flashcards even less than I do. That's why I was so relieved
when I came across the advertisement for CapJaxMathFax in The Old Schoolhouse
Magazine. |

This program is a great way to review the math facts. And it's easy on Mom too!
First, set up your child's name, then decide whether you want them to just practice
(the program will not keep track and "rate" their knowledge of the math facts)
or play for rating. You determine what constitutes fact mastery by setting the
time for a "super" rating. The default is 3 seconds. Your child will play through
each level (like the plus ones, plus twos, etc.) while the computer keeps track
of how fast he answers the fact. Once he achieves a "Super" on every fact on that
level, he graduates to the next level. A level is a certain fact family. Your
child can drill addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using Cap Jax,
and you can keep track of his progress by looking at the individual detail report.
My daughter enjoys this program better than Quarter Mile Math (which is a lot
more expensive!) She is more motivated to play this game as she sees her rating
get higher.
This program is a wonderful way to keep Mom sane and math drilling math facts
enjoyable.
